How does Charm protect teens from strangers?

Charm is intended to be used only with close friends, not strangers. There is no way for your teen to meet new people, discover new friends, or search for users they don't already know on the app.

How friending works

Friends on Charm can only be added from your phone's contacts, by sharing your exact username, by sharing your personal invite link, or through friends in a shared group. This means everyone your teen adds on Charm is someone they already know in real life. There are no suggested friends, no public profiles, and nothing for a stranger to find.

A friend request on its own does nothing — your teen has to accept it before any photos are shared in either direction, and declining a request is completely silent. Anyone can also be blocked at any time from the friends list, without the other person being notified.

Think of it like a phone number: only people you share it with can contact you. When talking with your teen about Charm, it's worth encouraging them to share their username and invite link only with people they know and trust, just like their number.
