How can I limit the time my teen spends on Charm?
Charm is about keeping up with friends, not entertainment. There's no algorithmic feed and no infinite scroll — photos come from friends and run out — so most visits to the app last a few seconds. If you'd still like to see or limit the time your teen spends on Charm, the phone's built-in controls work well.
On iPhone
To check time spent on Charm:
- Open Settings → Screen Time → See All App & Website Activity
- Find Charm in the list
- Review daily time and how often it was opened, by day or week
To set a daily limit:
- Open Settings → Screen Time → App Limits → Add Limit
- Search for Charm and set a daily allowance
- Turn on "Block at End of Limit"
- Set a Screen Time passcode under Lock Screen Time Settings, so the limit can't be changed without you
Downtime, in the same menu, blocks apps during set hours — a good fit for school time and bedtime.
On Android
To check and limit time spent on Charm:
- Open Settings → Digital Wellbeing & parental controls
- Find Charm in the dashboard to see time spent
- Tap the timer icon to set a daily limit — Charm closes for the rest of the day when it runs out
Digital Wellbeing timers can be changed from the phone itself. If you'd like limits only you can change, Google Family Link sets them from your own phone instead.
